Abacus SE is a standalone line counting program for use with MS Word, versions 97/2000/2002/2003/2007, and this is the version of Abacus that we recommend for use with Word 2003 and 2007. It can count gross lines, words, pages, or characters, and converts characters to a line count. It can include in these counts the document's headers, footers, texboxes, footnotes, endnotes, tables, and locked fields. If you count characters the Abacus gives you multiple counting options, such as the choice of counting bold/shifted/italicized/underlined characters, and counting spaces/tabs/returns. It will count documents prepared with Word and documents that have been created using other word processors as long as Word can read them.

After counting your documents, the Abacus will save your counts in a log file which you can review and edit. You can then instruct the Abacus to create an invoice from the log file. This can be used for billing or to reconcile your charges with your client or employer.
